Few things test our faith like waiting. We pray, we hope, we do our part — and then we wait, often longer than we expected. In the waiting it can feel as though God has gone quiet or forgotten. But the pages of Scripture tell a different story. Again and again, the waiting season turns out to be the very place where God is doing His deepest work.
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
Psalm 27:14
The Waiting Is Not Wasted
Joseph waited in prison. Abraham and Sarah waited decades for a promise. David was anointed king long before he wore the crown. God was not absent in their waiting; He was preparing them. What looks like delay from the ground often looks like formation from heaven.
Trusting the Character of God
When we cannot trace God’s hand, we can still trust His heart. His timing is not slow — it is right, shaped by a love and wisdom that see far beyond what we can. The question in the waiting is not usually “Will God act?” but “Will I keep trusting Him until He does?”
Faithful in the In-Between
Waiting well does not mean doing nothing. It means staying faithful in the small things, keeping our hearts soft, and refusing to force doors God has not opened. The in-between is holy ground. It is where patience grows, where character deepens, and where we learn that God Himself is the reward, not merely the thing we are waiting for.
A Prayer for the Waiting
Father, waiting is hard, and You know I would rather have answers now. Help me trust Your timing even when I cannot see the reason. Keep my heart soft and my faith steady, and remind me that You are at work even in the silence. Amen.
